About SFCS

Why SFCS?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future“

Jeremiah 29:11

Welcome letter from Principal Smith

The mission of St. Francis Catholic School being rooted in Catholic faith and traditions has been an inherent part of the SFCS culture during our 28-year legacy. It is instilled in our programs, cultivated in our faculty and staff, and witnessed through every student. We celebrate our School’s Catholic heritage and traditions as we continually strive for higher excellence. St. Francis Catholic school understands the importance of an education that empowers students for bright futures and to lead meaningful lives. We want every student we serve to have the opportunity to develop their gifts and share their passion and purpose in impactful ways while enrolled at SFCS and beyond.

We draw families from Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Beaufort County, and Savannah, who have made St. Francis Catholic School their home for their children’s education. Come witness firsthand the environment where teachers love to teach, and children love to learn. We want you to experience the warmth and joy of our community as you walk through our buildings and campus.

We look forward to getting to know your family!

United in Christ,

Andrea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, NCC
Principal

Since 1996

St. Francis Catholic School was founded by Monsignor Martin Laughlin in 1996 as a ministry of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church with two grade levels: Pre-K and Kindergarten. Students enjoy a strong fellowship with the Church, through school Masses, involvement in parish events, cross-support amongst the many faith-filled School activities  and Church ministries, and of course oversight by our wonderful clergy.  The school also enjoys and is blessed by a special bond with Holy Family Catholic Church on Hilton Head Island.

Today, the school offers 10 grade levels, Pre-K through 8th Grade, and is the only private school on Hilton Head Island to do so.

1996

SFCS opened with two grades: Pre-K and Kindergarten. Initial enrollment was 45 students. The School was located in what is now the Family Center.

1997

1st and 2nd grades were added, virtually doubling enrollment to 95 students.
