Educational, recreational, and social activities don’t end with the bell rings at St. Francis Catholic School! As an additional benefit for parents and students, St. Francis Catholic School offers an Extended Day Program for PreK-8th grade students from 2:55 to 5:30 p.m. each day. Parents can count on convenient, safe, and structured supervision for their children during the after school hours, and children can count on a great time in a familiar place surrounded by familiar faces!
Our Extended Day Program is staffed by school personnel – both teachers and aides – and is overseen by its long-term director, Mrs. Betty Fick. Students can attend five days a week, or as “drop-ins.” Registration is required.
The program maintains the same focus on the whole child (spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social) as does the school by offering a variety of activities. Nutritious snacks, physical exercise, and recreation time are part of each afternoon. Older students can study and complete homework, while younger children can both learn and hone their social skills during free play in an engaging atmosphere. Whether it’s blocks or Barbie Dolls, board games or toy trains, puzzles or arts and crafts –there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
St. Francis Catholic School also offers complimentary childcare in the mornings from 7:30-8:00 a.m. in the school library each morning school is in session. No registration is necessary for the morning program.
At St. Francis Catholic School, learning and playing continues throughout the year! During the summer break and school vacations, students descend upon the campus to enjoy our summer and vacation camps.
Finding safe, affordable, and convenient quality childcare during school breaks can be a challenge for some parents. St. Francis Catholic School has recognized this need and responded by creating full day camps that coincide with the school breaks. Camps are in session during the months of June and July and during the Christmas and Easter vacations from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The camps are open to all St. Francis Catholic School students in grades PreK-6 th grade. Students in 7th and 8th grade can be junior counselors and receive community service hour credits.
Mrs. Lisa Sweeney, Director of Fine Arts at St. Francis Catholic School, serves as the camp’s director. She is assisted by Mrs. Suzanne MacDonald, physical education teacher, and other school personnel in providing care and fun-filled days for the campers. Vacation camps reinforce both the school’s mission and commitment to developing the whole child. Children enjoy a plethora of activities that follow a set schedule each week. They attend weekly Mass, visit at a nearby nursing home, go on field trips to place like Honey Horn, The Coastal Discovery Museum, and local library, and enjoy guest speakers. The daily schedule includes theatre games, art projects, and singing as well as sports, bike riding, and organized games both outdoors and in the school gym. Movies, cook-outs, gardening, “Water Days,” and weekly beach trips are also on the busy agenda.
St. Francis School’s Summer and Vacation Camps have grown immensely since their inception. New activities and options tailored to students’ interests and families’ needs are being added to each session. Registration is required.
